Who do I contact if I am registering a Team ?

If you would like to register a corporate team or large group, we encourage you to contact our National Events Manager, Rachel (rachel.skelton@ctf.org.au or 0432 625 860) to discuss your requirements and number of potential team members. We will create a package based on your needs and support you with the set-up process.

How do I register a team for the NF Hero Challenge?

If you would like to set up your own team and invite friends or family to join, it is very easy to do. All you need to do is register as an individual, complete the form and once you get to the stage where you set up your fundraising page, it will ask you whether you are an "Individual", or whether you want to "Join a Team" or "Create a Team".

If you are the first of your group to register, click "Create a Team" and type in your team name. Once you have completed your registration, you will be sent a link for you to invite others to join your team.

Alternatively, your team members can complete the same process and select "Join a Team" and search for your team name that way.

Can I purchase additional merchandise prior to the event?

If you have nominated to attend the event and fundraise for the challenge, you will receive your NF Hero cape free when you register. Those who register for the challenge, can choose to add a cape, as well as other merchandise to their cart at the time of registration.

Items available for purchase include:

  • #ConquerNF Yellow Cap (Adult and Child sizes) for $20 each

  • Plush Penguin for $20 + Penguin Cape for $5 each

Will event merchandise be sold on the NF Hero event day?

Yes, each location will have a limited amount of stock available for purchase on the day. However, there is only a limited amount of stock available in general and once it is sold out, we will not be ordering any more so we recommend you get in early.

Will the event merchandise be posted to me?

Yes, your NF Hero cape will be posted to you free of charge as part of your registration fee if you are also attending the event. The first dispatch will happen at the end of July.

For any additional merchandise, we ask that you kindly include the cost of your postage in your total by selecting from the following two options:

  • $9.95 for 3 items or less
  • $12.95 for 4 items or more

An honesty policy has been applied due to limitations in functionality with the site to be able to include this charge automatically. If you forget to include a postage cost at check out, we will be in touch to confirm your order.

If you have registered for the online fundraising challenge only, a cape can be purchased, but it is not automatically included.

Is there a cut-off date for postage?

The last postage date for the NF Hero Challenge merchandise for those attending the NF Hero event is August 23, 2019.

If you register for the challenge after this date and are not attending the event, you will still receive your NF Hero cape by post after the 23 August.

If you raise over $500 after this date and attending an event, you will be able to collect your "Incentive Pack" on the day of the event.

If you raise over $500 after this date, but not attending an event, your "Incentive Pack" will be sent to you at this time.

Is there an incentive to raise more than $500?

If you are one of the many legends who fundraise over $500, you will receive an incentive pack of goodies including:

  • A ticket into the draw to win 1 of 2 Hitachi 49" Smart 4K UHD LED LCD TVs
  • Yellow #ConquerNF Cap
  • Plush Penguin + Penguin Cap
  • Featured on the NF Hero Wall of Fame which will be promoted throughout the campaign period and enable others to contribute to your fundraising page (beyond your immediate network)

PLUS for every $100 you raise above this amount, you receive an additional ticket into the prize draw.

The highest fundraiser in each location will also receive a Gold NF Hero cape to signify their status!

Are donations tax deductible?

Absolutely! The Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia is a registered charity with deductible gift recipient status, so any donation of $2 or more is fully tax-deductible.

(Please note donations are only tax-deductible when the donation is a true gift only, and not to funds raised through fundraising activities where there is a material benefit or advantage, such as the sale of raffle tickets or merchandise. Donations in this case are not tax-deductible.

Can I run an event to raise money for the NF Hero Challenge?

That sounds like a great idea. There is no reason you can't run an event to help you achieve your fundraising goals or activate or challenge. You can use your fundraising page to direct any donations, and set up an event page through us if you need to organise ticketing.

Please get in touch with us by completing the form on the REGISTER YOUR EVENT page or by emailing rachel.skelton@ctf.org.au directly to discuss your plans and receive your authority to fundraise.

Do you have a list of challenge ideas that I can pick from?

Yes! We understand that it is not always easy coming up with these ideas and a little bit of inspiration is required. You can take a look at our Challenge Ideas page or download our NF Hero Fundraising Kit HERE which includes all the information you need to help you fundraise and come up with ideas for your challenge.

Can I still fundraise if I am not doing a challenge?

Of course, there is no reason why you can't fundraise for us if you are not completing a challenge. However, it can be a useful tool to help inspire your friends and family (who may have already given to previous fundraising campaigns) to make a donation to your page.

If you are attending the NF Hero Day on Sunday 8th September, we will be completing a 2.5km NF Awareness Walk around the park in support of the 1 in 2,500 people affected by NF. This could be your challenge.

What is the prize for the highest fundraiser?

This one is epic! Thank to our National Sponsor, Harvey Norman the individual who raises the most will take home this amazing prize valued at over $5000:

  1. LAPTOP: HP Spectre x360 13.3-inch 2-in-1 Laptop
  2. TABLET: Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e 128GB Wi-Fi Tablet in Silver
  3. MOBILE PHONE: Samsung Galaxy S10 128GB in Prism White
  4. SMART WATCH: Samsung Galaxy Watch 42mm Bluetooth in Rose Gold
  5. WIRELESS HEADPHONES: JBL Everest 710 Wireless On-Ear Headphones
  6. DIGITAL CAMERA: Canon EOS M50 with 15-45mm Lens Kit

This will be based on what everyone has raised by 5pm on Saturday 7 September.

What is the NF Hero Event Day?

The event day is a celebration of our NF Heroes and everyone’s fundraising efforts.

It will consist of a 2.5km NF awareness walk and a picnic in the park, with ‘hero’ inspired games, competitions and activities.

What do I wear to the NF Hero Celebration Day?

We ask participants to wear yellow, the colour of CTF that symbolises hope, friendship and harmony. Alternatively, you are welcome to come dressed up as your favourite superhero!

Don't forget to wear your NF Hero cape and any merchandise you may have purchased.

Where are the event days located?

There are 7 event locations around Australia. Please click on the locations below to go to the location specific pages to learn more:

  • Sydney will be held at Silverwater Park
  • Melbourne will be held at North Road Reserve in Brighton
  • Brisbane will be held at New Farm Park in New Farm
  • Canberra will be held at Glebe Park
  • Hobart will be held at Queens Park
  • Perth will be held at Kings Park near the Vietnam War Memorial
  • Warracknabeal will be held at Fauna Park (the event date is 25 August for this location ONLY)
Will the Celebration event be the same across all locations?

The NF Hero Challenge is an event that is managed by volunteer Race Directors across 7 locations, except Sydney and Brisbane.

The general premise of the NF awareness walk will be the same with a warm up, games, walk, party and prizes. The walk route will be approximately 2-2.5kms in all locations. The size, types of catering and drinks provided, ambassadors and inclusions will depend on the venue and your individual location.

Is the NF Hero Event Day happening on the same date everywhere?

Every location (except one) will be held on Sunday 8th September. Warracknabeal will be happening two weeks earlier on Sunday 25th August.

Is the NF Awareness Walk a race?

No. It is an awareness walk, not a race. It is not timed, there are no timing chips or race bibs. There are no individual race winners; however, each location will have a prize for the highest individual fundraiser. If you are competitive at heart, we suggest you put some of that competitiveness to see if you have what it takes to become a top fundraiser!

Are spectators allowed at the event day celebration?

No, only registered participants will be allowed in the venue. We will be pushing capacity, so no exceptions. If you don’t want to participate in the ‘walk’, you are welcome to line the walk route and cheer on all your friends, family, and strangers. Someone has to take the pictures, after all!

What if it rains?

The NF Hero Event day will happen even if showers are forecast. However, any dangerous weather will see the event cancelled.

If there is a weather emergency we will act accordingly. Keep an eye on your city pages and emails for alerts, and be following The Children's Tumour Foundation event pages on Facebook and Instagram for live updates!

Can I volunteer to help on the day?

Yes! We would love your help. Please contact Rachel.Skelton@ctf.org.au to find out more.

Where does the money go?

Donations to The NF Hero Challenge benefit the Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia (CTF). For more information on CTF, please visit the ABOUT US event page or visit our website.

Fundraising from the NF HERO CHALLENGE will go towards a range of CTF projects, including the provision of family camps and support services, education initiatives, such as webinars and new diagnosis kits, as well as research projects (Such as the current MEK inhibitor initiative) and funding the existing NF specialty clinics in various locations throughout Australia.

Does the Children’s Tumour Foundation only support children living with Neurofibromatosis?

The Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia is the leading charity in Australia that supports both children and adults with Neurofibromatosis (NF). We do not provide services for other conditions and the money raised through this initiative will benefit only those impacted by NF.

What is Neurofibromatosis (NF)?

NF is a rare genetic disorder that causes tumours to grow on nerves throughout the body. It is a cancer predisposition syndrome that affects 1 in 2,500 births in Australia. It is progressive, unpredictable and there is no cure.

NF causes tumours to develop on ANY nerve in or on the body at any time. These tumours can develop just underneath the skin’s surface and cause visible external growths, or they can grow deep within the body and affect major organs and the nervous system, including the brain and spine.

NF can lead to a range of complications including deafness, blindness, paralysis, physical deformities, bone abnormalities, an increased risk of cancer, learning disabilities and chronic pain. Unfortunately, effective treatment options are limited.

For more information about NF, please visit the ABOUT NF page or visit our main website. To meet some of the affected by NF near you, check out the NF Hero section of our site.
